Minnesota Heads to New Mexico

Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Minnesota women's tennis team will head back out on the road to face the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M. Sunday at 3:00 p.m. central time.

The Golden Gophers swept their first Big Ten Conference match last weekend in the Border Battle versus Wisconsin, 7-0, adding to their now three-match win streak. Nine different Gophers went undefeated, including all three doubles teams. All single matches were won in two sets, except for junior Caroline Ryba, who overpowered Wisconsin in a match tie-breaker.

Sophomore Camila Vargas Gomez leads Minnesota with an 8-2 dual singles match record, adding to her 16-6 overall record. Ryba leads with a 5-3 record at the No. 1 spot.

Sophomore Caitlyn Merzbacher is currently on a five-match winning streak while senior captain Maja Vujic has won six straight singles matches.

Barbara Mancera is currently on a three-match winning streak and is 3-1 when she is playing in the No. 2 spot.

Minnesota has won the doubles point in the last six matches, led by the tandem of Vargas Gomez and Annemarie Emme who are 8-1. Ryba and Cammy Frei follow with one less win, 7-3, but have a higher overall record of 19-9.

The Maroon and Gold are currently 46-24 in singles dual matches and 23-10 in doubles dual matches.

When they are finished with the match in New Mexico, the Gophers will travel to University Park, Penn. where they will play their second Big Ten match versus Penn State Friday March 17 at 3:30 p.m. central.

About New Mexico
The Lobos are 1-9 in dual play, their one victory over Wisconsin. Senior Rachana Bhat leads the team in dual play with a 4-1 singles record. The Lobos have three separate duos who are tied with one doubles win a piece.
