Alumnae Named to Finland's Worlds Roster

MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota alumnae Mira Jalosuo and Noora Raty have been selected to represent their native Finland at the 2017 IIHF Women's World Championship, March 31 to April 7 at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich.
The Finnish duo joins eight other Gophers in representing their countries at the upcoming world championship as current Gophers Kelly Pannek and Lee Stecklein join alums Megan Bozek, Hannah Brandt, Amanda Kessel, and Gigi Marvin on the U.S. Women's National Team and Sarah Potomak and alum Sarah Davis were selected to represent Team Canada.
The eight-team, 22-game tournament will take place at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich. A total of 18 games are scheduled to be played on the arena's main sheet (NHL-sized rink), while four games will take place on the arena's secondary sheet (Olympic-sized rink).
The tournament is slated to begin on Friday, March 31 with group play. Group A consists of Russia, Canada, Finland, and the United States, and Group B is made up of the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Sweden, and Germany. Group play continues on Saturday, April 1 and Monday, April 3.
The relegation round, quarterfinals, and semifinals are set for Tuesday, April 4 and Thursday, April 6. The bronze-medal and gold-medal games then cap the tournament on Friday, April 7.
The U.S. has won the last three IIHF Women's World Championships and has played Canada in the gold medal game in all 17 of the previous events.
