Gophers Play Two Conference Matches This Week

Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Minnesota women's tennis team travels to University Park, Penn. Friday to take on Penn State then returns home to Baseline Tennis Center Sunday to host No. 2 Ohio State.
Friday's match will begin at 3 p.m. central time while Sunday's match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
Minnesota is on a four-match winning streak before taking on Penn State on Friday. The Team has an overall-record of 9-4 this season and are 1-0 in the conference after defeating Wisconsin 7-0.
Camila Vargas Gomez leads Minnesota with nine singles dual match victories. She is 9-2 in dual matches this season where she has played mainly out of the No. 6 spot. Tina Kreinis is 8-4 from the No. 1 and No. 2 spots whole Caroline Ryba is 6-3 from the No. 1 spot.
Vargas Gomez has teamed up with Annemarie Emme to form a 6-2 doubles team in dual matches. The pair has played in the No. 3 spot. Ryba and Cammy Frei are 7-4 from the No. 2 doubles spot while Caitlyn Merzbacher and Mehvish Safdar are 5-6 from the No. 1 doubles spot.
About Penn State
The Nittany Lions are 3-8 overall this season and 0-1 in the conference after falling 7-0 to Ohio State. No. 104 Katia Bilk is 5-11 in dual match singles this season while Dasha Sapogova leads the squad with a 10-2 singles record.
Devan McCluskey and Kim Surin are 9-6 in dual match doubles from the No. 1 spot while Katherine Whiteaway and Zuhse Jacqueline are 7-12 from mainly the No. 2 spot.
About Ohio State
The Buckeyes are currently ranked No. 2 in the nation and are 14-2 overall with their two losses coming to North Carolina and Florida. They played Wisconsin on Friday.
No. 1 Francesca Di Lorenzo is 12-1 in singles matches this dual match season while No. 41 Gabriella De Santis is 7-4. No. 53 Miho Kowase leads the squad with a 13-0 singles record. No. 54 Sandy Niehaus is 11-1 and No. 61 Anna Sanford is 5-7.
The Buckeyes boast the No. 10 doubles pair in Di Lorenzo and Kowase who are 8-1 this dual match season.
