Gophers Open Spring Season vs. Hawaii

The University of Minnesota volleyball program opened up the spring season against Hawaii, March 16, in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Gophers won all four sets played.
Minnesota trailed 14-11 in the first set before tying it, 15-15. The Gophers took the lead for good at 19-18 and went on to win the first set, 25-19. The Gophers earned a 25-18 second set win. The Gophers opened the second set with a 15-9 lead and never looked back. They pushed their lead to 22-14 and later went on to win, 25-18.
The Gophers added another 25-19 third set win. Minnesota opened the set with a 6-1 lead and maintained the lead for the remainder of the set. The Gophers pushed the lead to 15-10 and later 21-15 before taking the third set. Hawaii jumped out to a 12-8 lead before the Gophers came back and tied the set at 15-15. Minnesota later trailed 21-19 and called a timeout. Following the timeout, Minnesota came back to tie it at 22-22 before winning the set, 25-23.
Following the match, the Gophers received Hawaiian leis from the fans.
Minnesota's next competition will be in Luverne, Minn., when it competes against South Dakota, April 8, at Luverne High School.
