Minneapolis, Minn. - Take a look at where the Gophers sit in this week's polls as women's hockey, wrestling and women's swimming and diving wrapped up their 2017 seasons. Tickets for all upcoming home events are available by visiting mygophersports.com.
Women's Hockey - #4
Last Week: Despite battling back to tie the game three times, the No. 5 Golden Gopher women's hockey team fell to No. 2 Clarkson by a score of 4-3 in the NCAA Women's Frozen Four semifinal round at the Family Arena Friday night.
Men's Hockey - #5
Last Week: Penn State's power-play goal at 13:33 of the second overtime session ended the longest game in Big Ten Conference history on Friday night as the Gopher Hockey program suffered a 4-3 overtime loss in its Big Ten Tournament semifinal matchup.
This Week: The No. 5 Gopher Hockey program returns to the NCAA tournament this season, earning a No. 1 seed for the Northeast Regional, March 25-26, at SNHU Arena in Manchester, N.H. Minnesota opens up the tournament against future Big Ten foe Notre Dame on Saturday, March 25 at 2:30 p.m. CT.
Men's Gymnastics - #5
Last Week: The University of Minnesota topped the University of Illinois at Chicago with a final score of 413.500-372.700 on Saturday afternoon at the Sports Pavilion. Minnesota swept the podium on each event, and the win marked an undefeated season at home for the Golden Gophers.
This Week: The Gophers will travel to Lincoln, Neb. to face the Huskers for the second time this season. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, March 25 at 4:00 p.m. CT.
Wrestling - #7
Last Week: Coming off a strong showing in the early session of the NCAA Championships on Friday, four Gophers clinched spots on the podium, ensuring All-America seasons for each. Returning All-American Brett Pfarr at 197 pounds and first-time All-American Ethan Lizak at 125 led the way by advancing to tomorrow's championship bouts. Rounding out the foursome was another pairing of a returning All-American and a first-timer, heavyweight Michael Kroells and 141-pounder Tommy Thorn, respectively.
Softball - #8
Last Week: The University of Minnesota Gophers topped Pacific 10-0 and 12-1 this afternoon capping off their spring break trip on a four game win streak. In the last four wins the Gophers have outscored their opponents 38-1 and are now 25-2 on the season.
This Week: The Gophers mainly have B1G games left this season with only two nonconference doubleheaders left on the schedule. They will play 16 home games in April.
Women's Swimming and Diving - #10
Last Week: The Golden Gophers equaled their second-best NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships finish by placing 10th with 168 points. Minnesota tallied 14 All-America performances and four program records in Indianapolis. Lexi Tenenbaum was named CSCAA Diver of the Year, Wenbo Chen was named Diving Coach of the Year and Kierra Smith broke the NCAA record and earned silver in the 200-yard breaststroke on Saturday.
Men's Swimming and Diving - #20
This Week: The Golden Gophers will close their season this week at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. The meet runs Wednesday, March 22 through Saturday, March 25. Preliminary sessions (every day except Wednesday) begin at 9 a.m. CT and finals start at 5 p.m. Six individuals and five relays were invited to compete for Minnesota in Indianapolis.
Men's Track and Field - #19
Last Week: The University of Minnesota men's track & field program kicked off the outdoor season with nine top-10 finishes at the Baldy Castillo Invitational including a trio of competitors in the high jump.
Up Next: The Gophers will compete at the Bruin Legends of Track & Field Invitational at UCLA March 31 - April 1.
