Minnesota to Host Iowa and Nebraska

Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Minnesota women's tennis team will continues their homestand at Baseline Tennis Center this weekend as they battle Big Ten opponents Nebraska and Iowa.
The Nebraska match is scheduled Saturday at 10 a.m. while the Gophers will take on the Hawkeyes Sunday at 11 a.m.
The Golden Gophers are sitting at 1-2 in Big Ten play and 9-6 overall, coming off a loss against No. 2 Ohio State, a close loss to Penn State, 4-3 and a dominating win over Wisconsin. The Maroon and Gold sit at a .602 percentage in singles dual play with a 53-35 record.
Camila Vargas Gomez and Tina Kreinis lead Minnesota with nine wins apiece in singles dual match play. Vargas Gomez has currently has a 7-3 record at spot No. 6 with wins a spots No. 3 and No. 5, as well as an overall record of 17-8 on the season.
Three Gophers are 2-1 in conference play: senior captain Maja Vujic at the No. 5 spot, Barbara Mancera at the No. 3 spot and Kreinis at the No. 2 spot.
Doubles play is led by the tandem of Vargas Gomez and Annemarie Emme who are 8-7 at spot No. 3, closely followed by Caroline Ryba and Cammy Frei with a 7-6 record at the No. 1 spot.
Mehvish Safdar and Caitlyn Merzbacher are 2-1 in conference play, including the lone doubles win against Penn State. The Maroon and Gold are currently 25-17 in doubles dual matches this season.
Following the weekend at home, Minnesota will begin a three-match road trip to start April, challenging Michigan State, Michigan and Tulsa.

About Nebraska
The Cornhuskers are undefeated in dual play, sitting at a 15-0 record. Their conference record is 2-0. Katerina Matysova is undefeated as well, 11-0, while two other Nebraska athletes have 10 singles wins. The duos of Mary Hanna and Paula Del Cueto Castillo and Claire Reifeis and Hayley lead the team with 5-1 records in doubles play.
About Iowa
The Hawkeyes are 11-3 in dual play with a 1-1 conference record, remaining undefeated at home. Kristen Thoms leads Iowa, 11-2, in dual singles play, 8 victories coming from spot No. 4. The doubles pair of Zoe Douglas and Elise Van Heuvelen lead the squad with a 10-1 record in the No. 1 spot, earning the duo a No. 80 ranking.
