The University of Minnesota volleyball program is set to kick off its 2017 spring volleyball season in Hawaii. The Golden Gophers will be in Hawaii, March 11-18, and open competition against the Rainbow Wahine, March 16, at 7 p.m. HT.
The Gophers will hold practices throughout their time in Honolulu before their spring match against Hawaii. Live stats will be available for the match on Hawaii's schedule page. Minnesota recently faced the Bows in the NCAA Second Round this past December.
This is the second time in four years the Gophers have held a traveling training trip. Gopher Volleyball went to Japan in the spring of 2015 and were the only collegiate team to compete at Japan's National Training Center. This is the first time Minnesota will go to Hawaii for a spring training trip. The spring scrimmage marks Minnesota's first time to Hawaii since 2008. The Gophers participated in the 2008 Waikiki Beach Marriott Challenge, where they faced Hawaii, Cincinnati and Wyoming.
Following the Hawaii trip, the Gophers continue spring action with a scrimmage against South Dakota, April 8, in Luverne, Minn. Match time is approximately a 1 p.m. start, held in the Luverne Public High School gym. Minnesota then travels to Menomonee Falls, Wis., April 15, to take on Milwaukee. Match time is also set for an approximate 1 p.m. start.
The Gophers close out the 2017 spring season with a home scrimmage on April 22 at 2:30 p.m., when they welcome Iowa State to the Sports Pavilion. Minnesota will also honor the 2016 campaign by highlighting their second-straight Final Four run in a ceremony following the Spring Set.
