Gophers in the Pros: March 8

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Golden Gopher women's hockey team is preparing for the upcoming weekend against the UMD Bulldogs in the NCAA Regional. Catch up with former Gophers as they compete in the CWHL and NWHL, including Sarah Davis, who played in the Clarkson Cup championship game last weekend.
In total, seven University of Minnesota alumni are playing in the NWHL and CWHL this season: Megan Bozek, Jordyn Burns, Amanda Kessel; Amanda Leveille, Gigi Marvin, Milica McMillen, and Anne Schleper are competing in the NWHL while Sarah Davis and Kelly Terry are continuing their CWHL careers. The nine Golden Gophers are among 36 WCHA alumni playing in either the NWHL or CWHL this season.
NWHL Update
New York Riveters at Boston Pride - March 4, 2017
The Boston Pride hosted the New York Riveters and continued its undefeated streak with a 4-3 win. Amanda Kessel opened the game's scoring with a first period goal for the Riveters. Late in the opening period, the Riveters struck again to gain a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission. Early in the middle frame, Boston scored to make it a 2-1 game, but Amanda Kessel responded with her second goal of the game to regain the two-goal lead just under five minutes later. During the third period, Boston scored three unanswered goals to win by a score of 4-3. Gigi Marvin picked up assists on two of the three goals.
Buffalo Beauts at Boston Pride - March 5 ,2017
The Boston Pride continued its home stretch when they beat the Buffalo Beauts 7-1 last weekend. The Pride scored the only two goals in the first period, before scoring two more early in the second period. Midway through the second period, the Beauts scored its only goal of the game. Boston scored three more unanswered goals to secure a 7-1 win.
CWHL Update
Les Canadiennes Montreal at Calgary Inferno - March 5 ,2017
Sarah Davis and the Calgary Inferno fell by a score of 3-1 in the Clarkson Cup championship game to Les Canadiennes Montreal. Montreal scored the first two goals of the game in the first and second periods, before Calgary responded with a goal 12:57 in to the third period. Marie-Philip Poulin secured the championship victory with an empty-net goal late in the final period.
