Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Minnesota will host Illinois for a Big Ten three-game series beginning Friday afternoon at Siebert Field.
Updated Time Changes
Because of weather conditions and temperatures, Friday's game has been moved up to a 4 p.m. start time while the two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday. The first game on Saturday has a 1 p.m. start time with the second game scheduled to begin 30 minutes following the end of the first game.
The Gophers are 24-12 overall after defeating NIU Tuesday in a nonconference midweek contest. Minnesota sits at 8-4 in the conference, second in the Big Ten, after dropping two out of a three-game series with Nebraska.
The Maroon and Gold have a .291 team batting average. Jordan Kozicky has a .342 batting average (26-76) while Luke Pettersen is batting .339 (41-121). Jordan Smith, Matt Stemper and Alex Boxwell are all tied at five home runs for the team lead. Boxwell also leads the team with seven steals. Toby Hanson is the team leader with 31 RBIs.
Lucas Gilbreath leads all starting pitchers with a 2.55 ERA and 57 strikeouts. The lefty is 4-0 this season. Brian Glowicki leads the country with 14 saves and boasts a 0.39 ERA to go with 27 strikeouts. Tim Shannon has made 20 appearances out of the bullpen and is 2-0.
Defensively, the Gophers have a .982 fielding percentage. The squad has turned 34 doubles plays and has committed only 24 errors.
About Illinois
The Fighting Illini are 16-22 overall this season and 3-9 in the Big Ten. They defeated Bradley this past Tuesday 8-6. Illinois has a .257 team batting average and are led by Jack Yalowitz's .333 batting average. Yalowitz leads the team with 32 RBIs while Pat McInerney leads the team with 12 home runs.
Joey Gerber has made 21 appearances for the Fighting Illini and has the team's lowest ERA at 2.77. He also leads the team with six saves while Ty Weber leads the squad with 40 strikeouts. Weber is 2-4 as a started and has thrown 60.1 innings in ten appearances.
All-Time Series
Minnesota leads the all-time series 109-100-1. The last time the two teams played each other was in 2016 when the Gophers took two games out of a three-game series.
Parking
All fans are encouraged to park in the 4th Street Ramp with a stadium drop off area for ADA. All of 8th Street has signage identifying where parking is prohibited so follow those signs to identify no parking areas.
Saturday Events
During the first game on Saturday we will be celebrating the 1977 Gopher Baseball team. The second game of Saturday will be 90s night. Since it is going to be May, why not celebrate like the 1990s.
