Minnesota defensive back Jalen Myrick - who ran a blistering 4.28 at the NFL combine (fastest time ever for a Big Ten player) - was selected in the seventh round with the No. 222 pick overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Myrick started 21 of 47 career games at Minnesota. The Savannah, Ga., native made 93 career tackles and broke up 21 passes. He also made five career interceptions and returned two of them for touchdowns. Myrick also returned kicks for Minnesota and ended his career with 43 returns for 1,052 yards, which included a 100-yard touchdown against Northwestern in 2014.
Myrick's selection continues a streak of Gopher defensive backs hearing their name called at the NFL Draft. His pick marks the fourth straight year that a Minnesota secondary member has been drafted. Eric Murray was selected in 2016, while Cedric Thompson was drafted in 2015 and Brock Vereen in 2014. Defensive back Briean Boddy-Calhoun, who played at Minnesota from 2012-15, was not drafted but signed as a free agent with the Cleveland Browns in 2016 and saw ample playing time.
