The No. 7/7 University of Minnesota Gophers have now hit double digits 13 times this season after tonight's 11-6 victory over the Indiana Hoosiers.
Danielle Parlich and Kendyl Lindaman each hit home runs in the win. Lindaman now has 14 this season. She is now second all-time in Minnesota history for most home runs in a season and is just now one home run away from tying the team record.
Indiana jumped out to a 3-0 lead after a home run in the top of the third. The Gophers quickly answered in the bottom putting up five runs.
"That is just part of the game. People are going to score so we just knew we had to get gritty in the box," Parlich said. "We knew if we kept having great at bats that we would get the runs across."
Allie Arneson and Sam Macken both drew walks and Danille Parlich drilled a single to load the bases with no outs. Indiana recorded a force at home right after before Lindaman knocked in two runs with a single up the middle.
Maddie Houlihan crossed home next as MaKenna Partain reached on an error. Sydney Dwyer brought in two more runs with a single up the middle and now has 48 RBIs on the year.
The Gophers kept swinging in the fourth adding three more runs. Again Arneson and Macken got things rolling with a single and a double respectively. Macken is fifth all-time in Gophers history with 47 doubles in her career.
Parlich stepped up next and launched her second home run of the season over the wall in right to put Minnesota up 8-3 after four.
Minnesota had a chance to put the game away in the fifth with the bases loaded and no outs but Indiana got out of the jam only allowing one run. Arneson recorded an RBI walk for the ninth run.
Another Indiana home run made it a 9-4 ball game going into the bottom of the sixth as CaraMia Tsirigos hit her second of the game.
Lindaman led off the bottom of the sixth with yet another smash off the new football facility wall in left. Sara Groenewegen brought in one more Gophers run with a deep sacrifice fly to center.
Indiana put up two more runs in the seventh but the Gophers hung on to complete the victory. In the circle Groenewegen pitched a complete game and only allowed two earned runs while striking out seven. She moves to 16-2 on the season.
The Gophers will play Indiana again tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Sunday's game was moved due to weather concerns. Both of tomorrow's games can be watched on BTN Plus.
