Gophers Grab Three Titles at Ashton May Invite

LA CROSSE, Wis. (GopherSports.com) - The University of Minnesota men's track & field program claimed a trio of titles at UW-La Crosse's Ashton May Invitational while the Maroon & Gold continue competition at Arizona State's Sun Angel Classic.
At the Ashton May Invitational, Glen Harold bested teammate Tyler Tappe for the pole vault title with both Gophers clearing 5.11 meters (16-09.25 ft.).
Nick Bachinski added a title in the high jump at 2.10 meters (6-10.75 ft.) while unattached freshman Ben Gucinski came in second at 2.05 meters (6-08.75 ft.).
Unattached freshman Chris Trotter led a trio of frontrunners in the 800 meters, winning the event with a time of 1:51.17. Matt Rosen was the runner-up at 1:52.19 while Josh Tracy came in third at 1:54.87.
Unattached freshman Lucas Trapp added a runner-up finish in the 400 meters with a time of 50.04.
Meanwhile, the Sun Angel Classic continues competition into the night although several Gophers have already posted notable performances.
The relay teams led the way for the Maroon & Gold with a win in the 4x100 meters (40.54) and a third-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay (3:10.36).
Individually, Ryan Lockard added a fourth-place finish in the high jump at 2.10 meters (6-10.50 ft.) while Jon Tollefson came in seventh in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.43, and Bryan Bjerk came in eighth in the discus at 50.30 meters (165-00.25 ft.)
