Groenewegen Garners Academic All-America Honor

Sara Groenewegen was named to the 2017 Academic All-America team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Groenewegen earned third-team honors and is the first Gopher softball Academic All-America honoree since 2015 when Erica Meyer was named to the first-team. Groenewegen is the University of Minnesota's third Academic All-American in the 2016-17 season. She joins soccer's Rashida Beal and volleyball's Paige Tapp.
The White Rock, B.C. native has a 3.30 grade point average in sport management with a leadership minor. She has also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in her career.
The two-time All-American had her strongest season in the circle yet. She went 31-4 with a 0.63 ERA and 307 strikeouts. She was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year and earned NFCA All-Region first team honors. She finished her career as the Gophers all-time career strikeout record holder with 1,214 strikeouts.
