Dwyer, Groenewegen Earn CoSIDA Honors

Sara Groenewegen and Sydney Dwyer have each been selected to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 Softball Team, the organization announced Thursday. The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Groenewegen is a sport management major with a leadership minor. She has earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in her career. This is the first time she has been honored by CoSIDA. The two-time All-American is having another dominant season in the circle for the Gophers. She is 25-2 overall with a 0.55 ERA and 237 strikeouts.

Dwyer is a kinesiology major and dedicated to her studies in the classroom. On the field she is having a breakout season. Dwyer is hitting .395 with 11 doubles and nine home runs. She is also chasing the Gophers single season RBI record. She is just five away from tying the record with 69 RBIs this season.

The 2016 Capital One Academic All-District Baseball and Softball Teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

The Gophers finish out regular season play this weekend at Penn State. They are 48-3 overall and first in the Big Ten with a 19-1 conference record.
