The University of Minnesota women's soccer program has added Brad Swenby as an assistant coach, announced Thursday by head coach Stefanie Golan.

"We are excited to have Brad join our coaching staff," Golan said. "It is so important to have a balanced staff, and Brad brings the element of goalkeeper training and coaching that is so critical for our success moving forward."

Swenby comes to Minnesota after three seasons with the men's program at Indiana where he was an assistant and goalkeeper coach. Additional duties also included recruiting, assisting with travel plans, practice preparations, video analysis, organizing game day set up and more.

"He brings a great deal of experience as both a player and a coach in that aspect of the game and we know he is going to make an immediate positive impact with our goalkeepers," Golan said. "We also love that he is coming from a program that has a deeply rooted winning tradition and can't wait to see what fresh ideas and perspectives he can bring to our program from that experience."

In addition to his time at Indiana, Swenby has experience coaching at Lewis University, the University of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, his alma mater.

Swenby received his Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and mass communication from Milwaukee in 2004. He was a three-time letterwinner and goalkeeper on for the men's soccer team. He made 25 starts with a 15-8-1 record.

Swenby also spent time in the professional ranks with the Minnesota Thunder (2003) and semi-pro Arizona Sahuaros (2007-2010).

"Brad has tremendous character and is committed to the total development of our student-athletes," Golan said. "We feel like he is the perfect fit for what we need to continue moving forward as a program. We are so excited to welcome him to the Gopher Family."
