Park Ridge, Ill. - The University of Minnesota's Caroline Ryba was named to the All-Big Ten Team Thursday for the second time in her collegiate career and was also named the team's Sportsmanship Award recipient.

"I am so proud of Caroline and her dedication to improving her game and competing with the best in the nation every time she lines up." Head coach Chuck Merzbacher said. "She played No. 1 singles all year and to post a 15-7 record at the top sport and 7-4 in the Big Ten, just says a lot about her year."

The Glenview, Ill. native posted a 21-12 overall record this season and was 15-7 in dual matches from the No. 1 spot. Ryba finished the season riding a six-match winning streak and was 8-2 in her final ten matches.

The junior finished the season with a 23-14 doubles match record and was 19-13 overall when she was paired with Cammy Frie.

In the fall, she played into the round of 16 at the ITA Central Region Championships and won four doubles matches with Frei at the same tournament. Ryba defeated two other student-athletes who were named to the team.

"Caroline, has been consistent and reliable in her play for three years running as a Gopher, and I hope that next year will be a break-out year for her to make the NCAA Individual Tournament. She is very close to that level right now and with a solid summer and fall, she can do it."
