Two former University of Minnesota volleyball players gained medals at the 2017 Pan American Cup yesterday, in Canete, Peru. Paige Tapp helped the United States win gold, while Daly Santana helped Puerto Rico to a bronze medal.

Tapp competed in her first senior women's international tournament and walked away with a gold medal. It also marked the fifth time USA won the Pan Am Cup, and fourth time since 2012. In the championship game, Tapp scored a personal tournament best 13 points with eight kills on 22 attacks, added four blocks and an ace. In the semifinal against Peru, Tapp added another five points with four kills and a block.

Daly Santana was Puerto Rico's top scorer in the bronze medal match when she recorded 23 points. She also led her team against the Dominican Republic in the semifinal game (10 points) and against Cuba in the quarterfinal (20 points). Santana and Puerto Rico qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics, which marked the first time Puerto Rico ever qualified for the summer games.
