MINNEAPOLIS - Rising junior Anna Barlow was one of 90 student-athletes honored as an NCAA Elite 90 award recipient during the 2016-17 year, and this week the NCAA launched its fourth annual Elite 90 Fan Favorite Contest. Gopher fans can cast their vote for Barlow at the link above.
The Elite 90 Fan Favorite Contest celebrates the student-athletes who have achieved both in the classroom and in their sport, honoring the Elite 90 Award recipients -- student-athletes with the highest cumulative GPA participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 90 championships.
Barlow, who is studying Biology, Society, and Environment in the University of Minnesota's College of Liberal Arts, was presented the Elite 90 award for the 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey Championship during the 2017 NCAA Women's Frozen Four reception. The South St. Paul, Minn., native was in Minnesota's lineup for five games this season and was also named a WCHA Scholar-Athlete and WCHA All-Academic honoree for 2016-17.
The two-week Elite 90 Fan Favorite Contest begins with the first round Tuesday, July 11 until Friday, July 14; the top-30 voted honorees then advance to the semifinals and vote totals will be reset. The semifinal round is set for Monday, July 17 and Tuesday, July 18, and the top 10 advance to the final held Wednesday, July 19 through Thursday, July 20. The finalist with the highest vote total in the final round will be named the winner on Friday, July 21.
Fans can vote once per day per computer, and no registration is necessary. Last year, a total of 46,567 votes were cast during the entire contest.

About the Elite 90 Award
The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.
Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above who have participated in their sport for at least two years with their school. They must be an active member of the team, traveling and a designated member of the squad size at the championship. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.
