The University of Minnesota women's tennis program announced its 2017-18 schedule today, a schedule that will include six fall tournaments, and 12 home duals in the spring season.
"We are excited and looking forward to our 2017-2018 schedule which features three home tournaments and numerous dual matches during the season hosted at the Baseline Tennis Center," said head coach Catrina Thompson. "We will host one tournament during the Fall season, the Courtside Classic in February and finishing with the Big Ten Tournament at home in our backyard."
The Gophers will host the Big Ten Tournament for the first time since 2007. Last season Minnesota was the No. 8 seed in the tournament and were knocked out in the opening round.
"We feel fortunate to have an incredible home facility for our student-athletes and to have the ability to host numerous tournaments throughout the season," said Thompson. "Hosting the Big Ten Tournament this year in Minnesota will be definitely be a highlight on our schedule."
The Gophers will open up their season at the Drake Invitational on Sept. 15-17 and then will return to Baseline Tennis Center on Sept. 21-24 to host the annual Gopher Invitational.
Minnesota will take part in a few regional and national tournaments in the month of October and November, and will wrap up the fall season with the Big Green Invitational.
The Maroon and Gold will return to action on Jan. 27 when they host Sacramento State and South Dakota State in separate duals.
The team will remain home to host the Courtside Classic on Feb. 3-4. Minnesota will welcome DePaul, Utah and Marshall to Baseline. The Gophers will then remain home for three straight dual meets against Marquette and South Dakota on Feb. 9 and Drake on Feb. 11.
For the remainder of February Minnesota will travel to Missouri, Memphis, and Pullman, Wash. to face Washington State and Eastern Washington.
Returning home, the Gophers will open Big Ten play with a dual against Wisconsin on March 2 and then will host South Alabama on March 4.
Minnesota will hit the road for a long road trip to Florida to take on Florida Gulf Coast, and then will return to Coach Thompson's alma mater in Notre Dame on March 13.
Minnesota then will face 10 straight Big Ten opponents from March 16 to April 22 including five home duals against Maryland, Rutgers, Michigan Ohio State and Penn State.
The Big Ten Tournament will begin on April 22 and end on April 29 at Baseline Tennis Center. Then the Gophers will send their best to the NCAA Regionals on May 11-13 with the location to be determined.
