MINNEAPOLIS - Another season of college hockey is just around the corner. The Gopher women's hockey sophomores and freshmen share how they spent their summer break.
Lindsay Agnew: This summer I spent a lot of time hanging out with my friends and family; I also dedicated a lot of my time to my on-ice and off-ice training. When I was younger, I used to golf a lot in the summers, so I tried to get out on the course more than I have in the past few summers. Two of my biggest highlights of the summer were going to Florida with my family at the end of July and competing with the Canadian National Development Team in Calgary. I'm really looking forward to getting back to campus and seeing the team!
Alex Woken: This summer I spent the majority of my time taking the most exciting class, Organic Chemistry, working out, and skating on campus. When I wasn't studying or training, I was either up at the lake with my dogs and parents, golfing, or just sitting outside and relaxing.
Katie Robinson: I spent most of my summer living on campus taking a Econ class that I enjoyed, working for Os Hockey, skating with teammates, and working out. When I was not on campus. I went to a couple country concerts (FGL and Love & Theft), went to the cabin with my family, and did various activities with friends from back home, like tubing, fairs, and demolition derby.
Kippin Keller: This summer I was fortunate enough to take a May term abroad visiting Germany, France, Switzerland, and last but not least Italy! I returned home June 12, and I spent my summer training hard, spending time with family and friends, going out on the lake, and making as many weekend trips to the cabin as I could. As my summer is ending, I am so excited to come back for another season entering my sophomore year.
Serena D'Angelo: This summer I spent four weeks studying abroad in Germany and Switzerland learning about food production in these countries with a few of my teammates. Beginning in June, I took an online course called The Ethics of Fashion and lived on campus with Emma, Anna, and Sierra. I'm excited to be back on campus and get back into the swing of things!
Taylor Wente: I spent this summer at the U attending summer school, living in Yudof Hall with three of my hockey teammates, working out, and skating. I went home on weekends to attend graduation parties and hang with my friends before they go off to college. I also spent a lot of weekends at cabins with friends and family.
Emily Brown: The majority of my summer consisted of taking a couple classes on campus and training both in the weight room and on the ice. Over the weekends, I was able to go up to a friend's cabin and spend time wakeboarding, surfing, and hanging out around the lake. I also took a week long trip with my family up north where we primarily fished and spent time together.
Olivia Knowles: I had a great summer of working, training, and adventuring! I spent three weeks of my summer in Penticton, British Columbia at Okanagan Hockey Academy where I worked and trained. I also spent a total of three weeks in my hometown on Vancouver Island where I was able to spend time with friends, family, and indulge in island life, doing things like camping, fishing, and lots of paddle boarding. Finally my best friend and I road-tripped to Calgary, Alberta to go to Stampede, visit my family, explore the city and Banff. Despite loving every minute of summer, I'm so excited to be on campus and start the season with GWH!
Grace Zumwinkle: The beginning part of the summer, I participated in the High School State Golf Tournament at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, Minn. I took two summer classes while working out and skating. Going to the Florida Georgia Line and Tim McGraw concerts were two highlights. My family also took a few vacations up north to family friends' cabins, Chicago, and Vermont. I spent a lot of time with family on the lake, golfing, and playing tennis.
Alex Gulstene: I have been on campus for almost the whole summer. During that time I took two classes and trained on and off the ice. Over the weekends, I spent my time exploring the campus and the Twin Cities with friends and teammates. After classes finished for the summer, I went back home to Vancouver. My family and I went sailing for seven days around the San Juan Islands, just off the coast of Seattle. Then, to finish off my summer, I attended one last goalie camp at home to get ready for the season before coming back. Can't wait to get the season started as a Gopher!
