Fans of the Maroon and Gold who are headed to campus for athletic events should plan accordingly and allow extra time this weekend. The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced that it will shut down both directions of Interstate 35W, between Highway 62 (Crosstown) and downtown Minneapolis.

The closure, which will begin Friday night and last through Monday morning, is part of an ongoing road construction project on the highway.

Fans are encouraged to seek alternate routes, and when possible, utilize Metro Transit light rail and buses to reach campus. The Stadium Village light rail stop is located adjacent to TCF Bank Stadium, along with the East Bank station which are both an easy walk to many campus venues.

The Gophers host several events this weekend. On Friday, the women's hockey team opens its season against Merrimack at home at Ridder Arena beginning at 7:07 p.m., while the swimming & diving alumni meet is at 6:30 p.m. at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.

Gopher football returns to action Saturday with an 11:00 a.m. kickoff against Maryland in the Big Ten opener, while Sunday brings the series finale against Merrimack (2:07 p.m.) and men's hockey's exhibition against Alberta at 5:00 p.m. at 3M Arena at Mariucci. Additionally, the women's golf team opens play in the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M, hosted at Olympic Hills Golf Club in Eden Prairie.
