Gophers to Celebrate 2018 Seniors

MINNEAPOLIS - The Gopher women's hockey team will recognize its four seniors, Sydney Baldwin, Sidney Peters, Cara Piazza, and Caitlin Reilly, this weekend as part of its annual senior celebration. Minnesota will honor the seniors in a pre-game ceremony on Saturday and hold a banquet in their honor on Sunday morning.
This year's senior class has posted a career record of 112-23-12 (.803 winning percentage) from 2014-15 to 2017-18. Their WCHA record stands at 75-15-12 (.794 winning percentage) over four years, and the seniors have been part of a 60-10-9 record in home games with a 47-11-3 record in road games.
Over the last four years, the Gophers have made three NCAA Frozen Four appearances (2015, 2016, 2017) and earned two NCAA Titles (2015, 2016) along with one WCHA regular-season title (2015) and one WCHA Final Face-off runner-up finish (2016). With the Frozen Four returning to Ridder Arena this year, the Gophers are in search of the program's historic eighth title national crown.
#9 Sydney Baldwin, Defense, Minnetonka, Minn.
Co-captain Sydney Baldwin has played in 147 games for the Gophers, recording 73 career points with 19 goals and 54 assists. A left-handed defense from Minnetonka, Minn., Baldwin registered her 50th career point earlier this season and ranks 11th in career goals among all-time Gopher blueliners. Baldwin earned back-to-back WCHA Defensive Player of the Month honors to start the season, and she leads the WCHA in scoring among the league's defensive players. She has a career-high 24 points this season and was part of back-to-back national championship teams her first two years as a Gopher. A two-time WCHA All-Academic Team and Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Baldwin will graduate with a degree in Health Services Management and Human Resources Development. She is the daughter of Dick and Gail Baldwin.
#37 Sidney Peters, Goaltender, Geneva, Ill.
A left-handed goaltender from Geneva, Ill., Sidney Peters has appeared in 72 games with a career record of 46-14-6. Peters red-shirted her first season on campus and was part of back-to-back national championship teams in 2015 and 2016. After seeing limited playing time her first two seasons in uniform, Peters backstopped the Gophers to an NCAA Frozen Four berth last season. Her 46 wins and 14 shutouts both rank fifth among all-time Gopher goaltenders while her 1.66 career goals against average and 1,214 total saves both rank sixth in program history. Peters ranks seventh in program history with a .917 career save percentage. A three-time WCHA Scholar Athlete, WCHA All-Academic, and Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Peters will graduate with a degree in Kinesiology with a minor in biology with plans to attend medical school. She is the daughter of Douglas and Karen Peters.
#10 Cara Piazza, Forward, Darien, Ill.
Co-Captain Cara Piazza has played in 141 games during her career, scoring 35 goals and adding 48 assists for 83 career points. A left-handed forward from Darien, Ill., Piazza is the first Illinois native to serve as a team captain since Megan Bozek in 2012-13. This season, four of Piazza's seven goals are game-winners, tied for the lead in the WCHA. She recorded a career-high 34 points with 11 goals and 23 assists as a sophomore in 2015-16 and was part of back-to-back national championship teams her first two years as a Gopher. Piazza is a two-time WCHA Scholar Athlete, WCHA All-Academic, and Academic All-Big Ten honoree and will graduate with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. She is the daughter of Tom and Sue Piazza.
#23 Caitlin Reilly, Forward, Chanhassen, Minn.
Caitlin Reilly has played in 97 games as a Gopher after beginning her career at Penn State. As a rookie, she recorded 16 points with six goals and 10 assists in 37 games for the Nittany Lions and earned three CHA Rookie of the Week awards. In her three years with the Gophers, Reilly has recorded 45 points with 21 goals and 24 assists. A left-handed forward from Chanhassen, Minn., Reilly has a career-best 20 points on eight goals and 12 assists this year. She leads the Gophers with seven multi-point games. Reilly will graduate this spring with a degree in Communications. She is the daughter of Mike and Lisa Reilly.
