STARTING FIVE
• Minnesota continues conference play at home, hosting the Indiana Hoosiers in the first of their two meetings this season. This week's back-to-back B1G home games are the only conference homestand of the season for the Gophers.
• Steadily climbing up the career charts, junior Jordan Murphy recently crossed the 1,000-point mark and entered Minnesota top-10 list for rebounds. Murphy has pulled down 755 boards in his two and a half years in Maroon and Gold, where he now sits seventh behind Ron Johnson (820).
• Murphy is leading the team and Big Ten Conference averaging 19.0 points and 12.9 rebounds per game through the first 15 games - the latter statistic second in the nation as well. The three-time Big Ten Player of the Week became the first Gopher to win the award in back-to-back weeks. Murphy is also just the second Gopher to win it three times in the same season. He also leads the country in offensive rebounds (5.1) per game, as of Jan. 5.
• Redshirt senior center Reggie Lynch will not play in Saturday's game vs. the Hoosiers, and has been suspended from athletic competition as of Friday, Jan. 5.
• Murphy has posted 16 double-doubles (highest in the country) thus far this season, doing so in each of the first 16 games of the season. His 12 to start the season was a feat that hadn't been accomplished in 10 years nationwide, when Michael Beasley did so at Kansas State in the 2007-08 season, and his current run is the most since Tim Duncan had 17 at Wake Forest during the 1996-97 season.
SCOUTING THE HOOSIERS
• Indiana is 8-7 on the season, including a 1-2 mark in Big Ten play. Most recently, the Hoosiers fell 71-61 at Wisconsin on Tuesday evening.
• Leading the Hoosier offense is Juwan Morgan, with the junior atop the Indiana leaders in four major categories - points (15.4), rebounds (7.0), blocks (1.5) and steals (1.2).
• The Hoosiers will be without the services of sophomore center De'Ron Davis, who suffered a lower right leg injury this week in practice. Davis has previously started every game this season, and is averaging 9.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.5 blocks and 0.8 steals per game.
• IU is under the guidance of first-year head coach Archie Miller, who arrived in Bloomington last spring following six seasons at the helm of the University of Dayton basketball program.
UP NEXT
• Minnesota starts a grueling stretch of four out of its next five away from the friendly confines of the Barn, visiting Northwestern on Wednesday night in Rosemont.
• BTN and KTLK 1130 AM/103.5 FM will carry the broadcasts of the game.
