Molly Fiedler and Celina Nummerdor have both made their marks Minnesota soccer team in countless ways. While looking at their careers thus far as Golden Gophers, Fiedler and Nummerdor have taken vastly different paths yet have made their presence known when suiting up in the Maroon and Gold.
Senior midfielder Molly Fiedler has made her impact felt not only at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium, but also across the Golden Gophers' record books. Fiedler, who has started every game for the Maroon and Gold throughout her career, sits merely one assist away from tying current teammate April Bockin for seventh all-time in career assists.
"I don't think about stats or leaderboards because ultimately I just want to go out there and do my job" Fiedler said. "If I can catch [Bockin] that would be great, but if not, I am looking to do whatever I can for the team."
Regardless of record books, Fiedler has continuously played a pivotal role for the Gophers throughout her tenure. This season alone she has tallied up two goals and five assists for a team second-best nine points across 15 games. Additionally, Fiedler has graced the field for 1,377 minutes this season with five of this season's games requiring overtime competition. Fielder's play has been highlighted by the lone goal against top-ranked Stanford which was the first open play goal given up by Stanford in 2,243 minutes. She also assisted on April Bockin's game-winning goal against Michigan in the 104th minute of play.
Taking an alternate route in comparison to Fiedler, sophomore midfielder Celina Nummerdor started in one game of her rookie season as a Gopher. This year she is making a significant impact as a sophomore where she has started in 12 matches thus far. Throughout this year's competition, Nummerdor has notched two goals and an assist across 722 minutes of play in addition to a .400 shot on goal percentage. Her most recent goal came as the game=winner against Purdue when she knocked in a close range pass from none other than Molly Fiedler.
Without question, the duo of Molly Fiedler and Celina Nummerdor have made their mark on the field while representing the University of Minnesota. Whether it is a four-year starter or an up and coming underclassman, the Gophers squad has been able to find a healthy balance for competition and talent.
Fiedler and Nummerdor will look to lead the Gophers in the upcoming conference rivalry matches against Wisconsin and Iowa at home. Despite the lengthy rivalry with the Badgers, Fielder and Nummerdor both hold the Border Battle series close to them each season for very different reasons.
"Wisconsin is always an emotional game" Fielder said. "They are our biggest rivals, which makes it an easy game to get energy for."
However, regardless of the unwritten dissent for the Red and White, Nummerdor is one of three Wisconsin born players on the Gophers' roster.
"It will always be a big game because it is my hometown" Nummerdor added. "I know a couple of girls on the Wisconsin team, so it will be a fun time regardless."
Be sure to follow along with the Golden Gophers as they round out their season in their last home-stand of the year when they battle against Wisconsin and Iowa on Oct. 13 and Oct. 18 respectively.
