Each week we will be gathering the top notes and clips from media availability. Take a look below:
Offensive Line is Currently "In the Turn"
Head coach P.J. Fleck was asked about the progress of the offensive line and if they are starting to turn a corner.
"I said, you got into the turn. Now, the hardest part is going out of the turn. Into the turn is one thing, Fleck said. "Talking about NASCAR and race car driving, not many crashes happen into the turn. It's as you starting to around it and start to come out of it, that's the hardest part to finish that curve. I think our offensive line has made huge strides. Huge strides. And especially you got two freshmen on the right side."
Sacked by Coughlin
Carter Coughlin has seven sacks (No. 5 in the NCAA and tied for first in the Big Ten) this season. He has 11 sacks in his last 12 games. He needs just a half sack to tie for 9th all-time in Gophers history for sacks in a season. He is well on his way to a double-digit sack season which has only been done six times in Minnesota history and hasn't happened since 2008 when Willie VanDeSteeg had 10.5 sacks.
Coughlin's 15.5 career sacks have him tied for sixth all-time in Minnesota history with Theiren Cockran (2012-15) and D.L. Wilhite (2009-12). He needs just half a sack to tie for fifth all-time in Minnesota history with Darrell Reid (2001-04).
"Carter Coughlin is somebody who works so hard at his craft. He's always after practice, working on his game," Fleck said. "His moves: His footwork, his hands, his leverage, his moves that he makes are way better. Why? Because he works on them every day. He's been working on them every day since January and I think he's starting to truly put a lot of fear in the offensive lines' or tackles' minds."
