Under the Helmet: Matt Morse
10/25/2018 2:58:00 PM | Football
Wide receiver Matt Morse out of Apple Valley, Minn. is in his redshirt junior season for the Gophers. He has played in every game this season on special teams and played in all 12 last season. He had an exciting moment last week when he came in as holder on a fake point after attempt and ran it in two yards for the score. Go under the helmet with him ahead of tomorrow night's game.
Gopher Sports: What is the best part about being on this team?
Matt Morse: The guys, being around the people for sure. The different backgrounds everyone has and learning all about them and their families and where they come from too.
GS: What is your favorite part about playing at TCF Bank Stadium?
MM: I love the intimacy the fans bring to it.
GS: What is your pregame routine like?
MM: I come in from the busses, get changed and usually go play catch with one of my fellow receivers. And then we do a little pregame warmup as a receiving core and come in and hang out, roll out, stretch out and listen to some music.
GS: What is your favorite part about the new football practice facility?
MM: I love the new player's lounge. I think that there is just a lot of opportunities to hang out there, where there wasn't before. Between the games, food and what seems like unlimited seating, there is always something to do up there.
GS: What does your typical day look like during football season?
MM: During the season we have practices in the morning, so anywhere from 6 a.m. to noon or so. Then I go from practice to class from noon to 6 p.m., or whatever it may be. I find time in between and afterwards to do homework and some Fortnite here and there.
GS: What do you think about the new jerseys?
MM: They're tight. They are simple, but I think they are really cool with the compasses and the oars. I like the chrome helmets too.
GS: Who is the best Fortnite player on the team?
MM: I've heard Kamal is. I haven't played with him, but I've seen some videos and it seems pretty impressive.
GS: If a genie granted you three wishes, what would they be?
MM: I'd wish that I could fly and then I think I'd probably ask for a few more wishes with the other ones, I don't know….I wasn't prepared for that question.
GS: What is your funniest memory from your time here?
MM: I think the funniest was when one of support staff members, Luke from Athletes in Action, was standing on the sideline and wasn't really watching the play and the running back got tackled right underneath him. So Luke did like a double flip, falls on his face and a few other people fall with him, that was pretty good.
We have a write-in @MortellAward candidate! Matt Morse checks in the game at holder and keeps it for the two-point conversion! #Gophers #MINNvsNEB #SkiUMah #RTB pic.twitter.com/SxxTxTYczI
