WCHA Honors Brown with Weekly Award

Sophomore defense Emily Brown has earned WCHA Player of the Week honors.
MINNEAPOLIS --Â University of Minnesota sophomore Emily Brown has been named the WCHAÂ Defense of the Week after helping the No. 2 Golden Gopher women's hockey team to a WCHA split on the road at top-ranked Wisconsin over the weekend. The award marks Brown's first WCHA weekly award of her career.
Brown posted two points (1g-1a) and contributed to both of Minnesota's goals in the Border Battle with the Badgers. She registered four shots on goal and four blocked shots while being even in plus/minus for the series. Brown was instrumental in helping the Gophers go five-for-five on the penalty kill and one-for-four on the power play in the series as well.
In game one, Brown scored the game-winning goal on the power play as the Gophers won 1-0 and shut out the nation's second-ranked offense after the Badgers entered the series averaging 4.25 goals per game. Game two saw Brown set up Emily Oden's game-tying goal, evening the score at 1-1 late in the first period before the Gophers eventually fell 4-1.
The Blaine, Minn., native was tied for third in scoring among WCHA blue-liners and was one of four WCHA defense to score a goal of over the weekend.
Brown and the Gophers return to action at Ridder Arena this weekend when Minnesota (7-2-1, 5-2-1-0 WCHA) hosts Bemidji State (0-7-1, 0-3-1-0 WCHA) in a WCHA series at 6:07 p.m. CT Friday and 4:07 p.m. CT Saturday.
