Kelly Pannek, Sophie Skarzynski, and Taylor Heise earned WCHA weekly awards after the Windjammer Classic.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Three Golden Gophers have earned WCHA Player of the Week honors after the No. 2 University of Minnesota women's hockey team won the Windjammer Classic in Burlington, Vt., last weekend. Co-Forward of the Week Kelly Pannek, Defense of the Week Sophie Skarzynski, and Rookie of the Week Taylor Heise earned WCHA weekly accolades after Minnesota won 8-2 over then-No. 8 St. Lawrence and 6-2 over Vermont in non-conference action.

Pannek picks up her seventh WCHA weekly award of her career, earning Co-Forward of the Week honors after being named the Windjammer Classic MVP and leading all players with six points (4g-2a). Her six points and four goals both led the WCHA, and her offensive output included a hat trick and a shorthanded goal. In the Gophers' 8-2 win over St. Lawrence, Pannek scored her third career hat trick and added an assist. Her three goals came on nine shots on goal and she was +3 after being on the ice for four of Minnesota's eight goals. The Plymouth, Minn., native then recorded two points (1g-1a) in the Gophers' 6-2 win over Vermont.

Skarzynski earns her second WCHA weekly award of her career and her first WCHA defensive weekly award. Skarzynski was tied for the scoring lead among WCHA defense last week, recording three points (2g-1a). Her three points, two goals, 1.00 goals per game, 1.50 points per game, one game-winning goal, and plus-5 plus/minus rating where tops among WCHA blue-liners. In the Gophers' 8-2 win over St. Lawrence, Skarzynski tied her career-high by scoring two goals, including the game-winner. The Lake Forest, Ill., native followed up by posting as assist in the Gophers' 6-2 win over Vermont to win the Windjammer Classic.

This week marks the second WCHA weekly honor of Heise's career and her first Rookie of the Week award. Heise was tied for the lead among WCHA rookies with two assists, three points, 1.00 assists per game, and 1.50 points per game last week. All three points came in Minnesota's 6-2 win over Vermont, tying Heise's career high. The Lake City, Minn., native scored Minnesota's go-ahead goal with 1:02 remaining in the first period after Vermont tied the game at 1-1 halfway through the first period. She then set up Amy Potomak's eventual game-winning goal and Emily Oden's second-period goal to put Minnesota up 4-1. Along with her WCHA weekly honors, Heise was named to the Windjammer Classic all-tournament team.

The Gophers (13-2-1, 9-2-1-0 WCHA) are back on the road for a series at Yale (2-8-0, 2-6-0 ECAC Hockey) this week. Puck drop is set for 5 p.m. CT Friday and 2 p.m. CT Saturday at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Ct. Fans can follow along with both games by watching online at YaleBulldogs.com or ESPN+, and free audio and live stats are available at GopherSports.com.
