Gophers Host Snowshoe Open on Friday

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota men's track & field program hosts its final home meet of the season on Friday, Feb. 16 with the Snowshoe Open at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse on campus.
The action kicks off with field events at 3 p.m. CT before competition begins on the track at 4:30 p.m. CT.
Gophers to Honor Senior Class
Friday's home finale will also mark Minnesota's annual senior celebration with the Maroon & Gold honoring the final home meet for Glen Harold, Charlie Lawrence, Ryan Lockard, Brad Neumann, Tyler Tappe, Derek Wiebke, James Travis and Sam Carlson.
Minnesota Earns Three Titles at ISU Classic
The Gophers are coming off a three-title performance at the ISU Classic in Ames last weekend as Ryan Lockard won the high jump at 2.21 meters (7-03.00 ft.), Sammie Houston won the triple jump 14.89 meters (48-10.25 ft.) and the team of Jonathan Webb, Matthew Baker, Ben Psicihulis and Jackson Wellenstein won the 4x400 meter relay (3:07.93). Lockard's performance moved the All-American into a tie for third all-time at Minnesota.

Lucas Earns Bid for NACAC Championshipp
Minnesota freshman Hunter Lucas punched his ticket for the 2018 NACAC Cross Country Championships with a fourth-place finish in the Junior Men's 8K on Saturday at the USA Cross Country Championships. Lucas traversed the eight-kilometer course at Apalachee Regional Park in 25:22.0. He'll now move on to the NACAC Cross Country Championships in San Salvador, El Salvador on Feb. 17. With Lucas earning his bid on Saturday, the Gophers have now been represented at two-straight NACAC Cross Country Championships with Nick Rink finishing eighth last year in Boca Raton, Fla., as the U.S. Under-20 Men's Team claimed a gold medal.
Minnesota Returns Six All-Americans to Roster
The Maroon & Gold return six All-Americans to the 2018 roster in Ryan Lockard (High Jump: 2016), Brad Neumann (4x400: 2016). Shane Streich (DMR: 2017), Jackson Wellenstein (DMR: 2017, 4x400: 2017), Derek Wiebke (DMR: 2017) and Obsa Ali (3KS: 2017).
'U' Breaks Ground on T&F Facility
The University of Minnesota officially broke ground on a new outdoor track & field venue on Friday, Oct. 20. The new stadium will feature a nine-lane track with three chutes, full field event hosting capabilities, and a design to allow sprints and certain field events to be held in multiple directions to take advantage of wind conditions on competition days. These features, along with permanent and event-based seating, provide the flexibility and the amenities to host a wide variety of meets.

Minnesota kicks off the championships season of the indoor schedule next weekend with the 2018 Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships, held at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The competition kicks off on Friday, Feb. 23 and concludes on Saturday, Feb. 24.
