Six Gophers Win Olympic Gold

Eight current and former Gopher women's hockey players represented their countries at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea as six players with Gopher ties are on the 2018 U.S. Women's Olympic Team and two Minnesota alumnae represented Finland.

Senior Kelly Pannek and Gopher alumnae Hannah Brandt ('16), Dani Cameranesi ('17), Amanda Kessel ('16), Gigi Marvin ('09), and Lee Stecklein ('17) won gold with Team USA. Fellow Gopher alumnae Mira Jalosuo and Noora Raty won bronze with their native Finland.

MINNEAPOLIS - Six Gophers won gold with Team USA as the U.S. Olympic Women's Hockey Team defeated Canada in a shootout, 3-2, to win gold at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games on Thursday morning.

The gold-medal game required a shootout after regulation and overtime ended with the rivals locked in a 2-2 tie. Gigi Marvin and Amanda Kessel both scored in the shootout, and North Dakota alumna Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson scored the game-winner in the sixth round of the shootout.

Minnesota Duluth goaltender Maddie Rooney stopped 29 shots for Team USA. Wisconsin alumna Hilary Knight and North Dakota alumna Monique Lamoureux-Morando scored for the U.S. in regulation.
