MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota men's track & field program returns to action this weekend with the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa. The competition starts on Friday, Feb. 9 and concludes on Saturday, Feb. 10.
Webb Runs Second Fastest 200 in School History
Minnesota is coming off a weekend in Ann Arbor that saw a member of the Maroon & Gold run one of the fastest 200 meters in program history at Michigan's Power 5 Invitational. Jonathan Webb claimed the 200 meter crown with a personal record of 21.20. Only Mitch Potter's time of 21.09 in 2004 ranks above Webb's time in the Minnesota top-performers list.

Lucas Earns Bid for NACAC Championshipp
Minnesota freshman Hunter Lucas punched his ticket for the 2018 NACAC Cross Country Championships with a fourth-place finish in the Junior Men's 8K on Saturday at the USA Cross Country Championships. Lucas traversed the eight-kilometer course at Apalachee Regional Park in 25:22.0. He'll now move on to the NACAC Cross Country Championships in San Salvador, El Salvador on Feb. 17. With Lucas earning his bid on Saturday, the Gophers have now been represented at two-straight NACAC Cross Country Championships with Nick Rink finishing eighth last year in Boca Raton, Fla., as the U.S. Under-20 Men's Team claimed a gold medal.
Ali Returns to ISU Classic After PR in 2017
The Maroon & Gold claimed four titles at last year's ISU Classic with Jordan Charles winning the 60-meter dash, Luca Wieland winning the long jump, Glen Harold winning the pole vault and Evan Ferlic claiming the open 3,000 meters. Additionally, Obsa Ali ran the second-fastest 5,000 meters in school history at 13:57.08.

Minnesota Returns Six All-Americans to Roster
The Maroon & Gold return six All-Americans to the 2018 roster in Ryan Lockard (High Jump: 2016), Brad Neumann (4x400: 2016). Shane Streich (DMR: 2017), Jackson Wellenstein (DMR: 2017, 4x400: 2017), Derek Wiebke (DMR: 2017) and Obsa Ali (3KS: 2017).
'U' Breaks Ground on T&F Facility
The University of Minnesota officially broke ground on a new outdoor track & field venue on Friday, Oct. 20. The new stadium will feature a nine-lane track with three chutes, full field event hosting capabilities, and a design to allow sprints and certain field events to be held in multiple directions to take advantage of wind conditions on competition days. These features, along with permanent and event-based seating, provide the flexibility and the amenities to host a wide variety of meets.
