Baldwin Collects Fourth Monthly Award

MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota senior defense Sydney Baldwin has earned her fourth WCHA Defensive Player of the Month Award, Powered by Goodwood Hockey, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) announced Thursday.
Baldwin has already been named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Year. She has been recognized for her play during the month of February after also taking home defensive player of the month honors for October 2017, November 2017, and January 2018.
The Minnetonka, Minn., native led WCHA defense with 1.17 points per game, four goals, seven points, one game-winning goal, 3.00 shots on goal per game, and a .222 scoring percentage with four goals on 18 shots during the month of February. Her seven points led the Gophers during the month as Minnesota was 3-2-1 in six games in February.
Baldwin had at least one point in four of Minnesota's six games in February, including three two-point games and back-to-back two-goal efforts.The anchor of Minnesota's blue line, Baldwin led the Gophers defense in allowing just one goal in three of six games during February. For the month, Baldwin was +7 and had 19 blocked shots as well.
Baldwin scored two goals in Minnesota's 5-2 win over St. Cloud State, which wrapped up the Gophers' road series with the Huskies with a 5-2 win and 3-3 overtime tie. She then scored two more goals in Minnesota's 4-3 loss at Wisconsin before the Gophers fell 1-0 in game two of the Border Battle series. Most recently, Baldwin recorded three assists in Minnesota's WCHA First Round sweep over St. Cloud State, setting up two goals in the team's game-one 5-1 win and adding another assist in the Gophers' 4-1 win in game two.
