Gophers Set to Face Badgers in NCAA Quarterfinal

MINNEAPOLIS - The WCHA Final Faceoff champion Golden Gopher women's hockey team will face Wisconsin in the NCAA quarterfinal round as the NCAA unveiled the eight-team National Collegiate Women's Ice Hockey Championship bracket Sunday evening.
Minnesota and Wisconsin will face off at 2 p.m. CT Saturday at LaBahn Arena in Madison, Wis., and tickets go on sale at 8:30 a.m. CT Monday at the link at the top of the page.
Minnesota is making its 11th-straight and 16th overall appearance in the NCAA postseason. The Gophers have won four of the last six national championships, and Minnesota has only missed the NCAA tournament twice in its 18-year history.
The NCAA quarterfinal is a rematch of Sunday's 2018 WCHA championship game, which Minnesota won 3-1 to secure the league's automatic bid into the national tournament. Mercyhurst (CHA), Clarkson (ECAC Hockey), and Northeastern (Hockey East) also earned automatic bids by winning their respective conference tournaments.

No. 2 seed Wisconsin (30-4-2) hosts Minnesota (24-10-3)
No. 4 seed Boston College (30-4-3) hosts Ohio State (23-10-4)
No. 3 seed Colgate (32-5-1) hosts Northeastern (19-16-3)
Quarterfinal competition will take place on the campuses of the participating institutions with the winners advancing to the 2018 Women's Frozen Four on Friday, March 16 and Sunday, March 18 at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis. Tickets for the 2018 NCAA Women's Frozen Four are on sale now.
Minnesota traveled for an NCAA quarterfinal match-up a year ago, defeating Minnesota Duluth by a score of 1-0 on the road to move to on to the 2017 NCAA Frozen Four. Minnesota is 10-2 all-time in NCAA quarterfinal games since the tournament expanded to eight teams in 2005.
