Ryba Wins Second Career Player of the Week

The Big Ten office announced today that Caroline Ryba has been named the Co-Player of the Week for the Big Ten after her performance last weekend.
Ryba completed a 4-0 weekend, which included the women's tennis team completing the upset of then-No. 30 Ohio State at home, 4-3. Ryba was a prominent factor in that victory for the Gophers with a straight sets victory over the now-No. 54 ranked player in the country, Anna Sanford.
The victory over the Buckeyes is the second highest ranked victory for the Gophers as a team in program-history, with this highest back in 2003 against No. 17 Northwestern.
Ryba was also a part of two doubles victories during the weekend with partner River Hart. On Senior Day, Ryba was able to pick up another victory against Gabby O'Gorman in straight sets.
"It couldn't be any more fitting than for her to win the award on Senior Day," Head Coach Catrina Thompson said. "It is a great way for her to be able to celebrate her career as a Gopher with a great performance at home."
This is Ryba's second time winning the award in her career, with the first coming in 2016 when she also beat a ranked opponent. Ryba is the only Gopher in the past four years to win the award.
"I think we had a breakthrough weekend as a team and it feels great to have had a pretty good weekend individually as well," Ryba said. "It's an honor to receive this award, especially considering the level that the Big Ten is playing at this season. I think I am playing well and with more confidence than in some of the previous Big Ten matches this season, so I just hope my team and I keep it going."
The Gophers are on the road for the remainder of the regular season, with matches against Illinois and Northwestern this weekend. Minnesota be hosting the Big Ten Tournament from April 26-29 at Baseline Tennis Center.
