Warm-Up Lap: Q&A with Nicolle Murphy

MINNEAPOLIS -- Redshirt senior Nicolle Murphy is back for her final season competing for the Maroon & Gold after red-shirting the 2017 season. In three competitions so far during the 2018 outdoor campaign, Murphy has won three javelin titles.
A native of Arkansas City, Kan., Murphy ranks second among all-time Gophers in the javelin with a throw of 56.35m (184-10), which she set at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials where she finished fifth. Murphy is a two-time First Team All-American and a three-time All-Big Ten honoree. Most recently, she placed fourth in javelin at the NCAA Outdoor Championship and won the B1G javelin title in 2016.
This season, Murphy is three-for-three in javelin titles, winning the event at the University of Houston Cougar Spring Break Invite, the Ole Miss Classic, and the Baylor Invitational. Her season-best throw of 56.17m (184-03) at the Ole Miss Classic leads the Big Ten Conference and ranks fourth in the nation.
