Gophers Race at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa - The No. 10 Golden Gopher women's track & field team placed third in the 4x1600-meter relay at the Drake Relays to kick off Friday's competition.
Madeline Strandemo, Abby Kohut-Jackson, Megan Hasz, and Bethany Hasz clocked a time of 19:26.92 on the way to their third place finish.
Strandemo led off with a split of 4:52.48 to lead the field, but Kansas State took the lead on the second leg and maintained first place for the rest of the race to win in 19:22.42. Iowa State and Air Force joined the Gophers among the top four throughout the race with ISU narrowly edging the Gophers for second place by just 0.67 seconds.
Action at the Drake Relays continued Friday evening as Strandemo and B. Hasz finished second and third, respectively, in the 1500m. Strandemo ran 4:26.46 as runner-up followed by B. Hasz on her heels in a career-best 4:26.92. M. Hasz finished ninth in 4:33.03.
This week's competition also continues at the Drake Relays and Louisville Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational on Saturday. Members of the team are slated to compete locally at Macalester College on Saturday as well.
