GopherSports.com: What are your summer plans? Internship? Travel? Playing Soccer? ANYTHING!

Molly Fiedler: This summer I will be playing on a local team in the WPSL called Fire 98. I also plan on continuing to volunteer at East Side Neighborhood Services and traveling a little bit with my family.

GS: Heading out of school for a few months, what do you like to do with your free time? Hobbies? Interests?

MF: During my free time I love to hang out with my friends and family and just spend time outside.

GS: How did you begin playing soccer? What sparked your interest as a child?

MF: I started playing soccer as soon as I could walk. Both my dad and my mom played soccer in college which meant there was always a soccer ball laying around the house. My dad started playing with me at a young age and I immediately fell in love with the game.

GS: What other positions have you played in the past? For instance… if you were a goal scorer in high school, and you are not now, what has that position change been like? Or vice versa…

MF: Growing up I only played center-midfield until I reached high school soccer. During this time, they played me as an outside forward. However, when I transitioned to college soccer they switched me back to center-midfield and I have stayed here ever since.

GS: What kind of person would you describe yourself as? What kind of player would you describe yourself as?

MF: I am a very shy, reserved person until you met me. However, once you know me I am very quirky and will not stop talking. As a soccer player, I am very competitive and hard working.

GS: Have you played other sports in your life?

MF: When I was younger I ran track and played basketball. I also played a lot of baseball with my brother.

GS: Is there a story behind your number you have in college? What about what you had in high school?

MF: There is no real reason or story behind my number being 6. Growing up I would switch between number 2, 3, and 6. When I reached college, the number 6 was the only open number.

GS: What made you choose to come to the University of Minnesota? What does it mean to be a Gopher to you?

MF: The University of Minnesota is such a unique place. The moment I stepped on campus I feel in love with the environment. Everyone here genuinely cares about you as a person. Everyone strives to make you the best person you can be and I think that is something truly unique. The culture at the University of Minnesota is unlike anywhere else.

GS: What is your favorite part about playing soccer here?

MF: The culture that Gopher Soccer embodies is what I love most about playing here. We compete hard on the field but then we are best friends off the field.

GS: Favorite Soccer player? Favorite Professional athlete?

MF: My favorite soccer player is Julie Ertz.

GS: Favorite food/meal?

MF: My favorite kind of food is any kind of pasta.

GS: Favorite Sport besides soccer?

MF: My favorite sports besides soccer are either baseball, basketball, or hockey.

GS: Favorite place you have traveled to?

MF: My favorite place I have traveled to is Hilton Head Island.

GS: Favorite __color___ (You pick something!)

MF: My favorite color is purple.

GS: Favorite _animal____ (You pick something!)

MF: My favorite animal is an elephant.
