Gophers Hand Out 2018 Awards

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota women's track & field team held its 2018 season banquet earlier this week as the Golden Gophers wrap up spring semester classes and prepare for the championship portion of the season.

The Gophers recognized the program's graduating seniors, celebrated the team's success so far this season, and handed out their annual team awards. Each award has three recipients as each of Minnesota's three coaches selected one of their athletes as an award winner.

2018 Gopher Team Award Recipients
Most Improved: Kelli Schmidt, Nayoka Clunis, Karlie Place
Blue Collar: Elyse Prescott, Ryan Crotty, Lindsey Smits
Tough as Nails: Megan Hasz, Taylor Wiebke, Emerald Egwim
Coaches Award: Kelsey Sather, Agnes Esser, Rachel Schow
Iron Gopher: Carissa Dock, Tess Keyzers, Emma Spagnola

The Maroon & Gold also honored the four 2018 team captains: Madeline Strandemo, Emma Spagnola, Temi Ogunrinde, and Titania Markland.

Minnesota begins the championship portion of the season at next week's Big Ten Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship. The B1G Championship will be hosted by Indiana in Bloomington, Ind., next Friday, May 11 through Sunday, May 13.
