MINNEAPOLIS – Following an impressive 9-for-18 week at the plate, junior outfielder Maddie Houlihan has been named Big Ten Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

The Plymouth, Minn. native began her 11 RBI week driving in a pair of runs with a double in game one against North Dakota State. A three-run home run in game two of the NDSU doubleheader helped Houlihan record a season-high four RBI as she went 3-for-4.

Against Penn State, Houlihan drove in the Gophers only run during the series opener, before driving in a pair on Saturday in the 19-0 win. In the regular season finale, Houlihan knocked a two run home run to extend her hitting streak to 9 games and give Minnesota an 8-0 shortened game victory.

This is Houlihan’s second career Big Ten Player of the Week honor after earning the same accolade on April 24 last season.

Minnesota heads to the Big Ten Tournament in Madison, Wisc. as the No. 2 seed May 10-12. The Gophers will face the winner of No. 7 Wisconsin and No. 10 Purdue on Thursday, May 11 at 11 a.m.
