Reunited: Santana and Rosado Play for Puerto Rico
6/27/2018 10:29:00 AM | Volleyball
Gopher Alums play again together for the first time since 2015.
After playing together as young kids in Puerto Rico, Daly Santana and Dalianliz Rosado both came to the University of Minnesota and played an integral part of the Gopher Volleyball team.
Now, both graduated from the University of Minnesota, they are reunited on Puerto Rico's national team. The duo is competing with Puerto Rico as a part of the FIVB Challenger Cup. Winning the tournament, the Puerto Ricans have a chance to advance into the 2019 FIVB Women's Volleyball Nation's League. If Puerto Rico wins the tournament, the winning team takes on the lowest ranked team in the 2018 FIVB Women's Volleyball Nation's League for a spot in the 2019 tourney.
Since graduating from Minnesota, Santana has played professionally since she completed her college eligibility in 2015. Playing in Puerto Rico, France and now Italy, the 2015 Big Ten Player of the Year is set to return to the Italian A 1 League next year with her same team, Il Bisonte of Florencia, next season. Il Bisonte fell to Igor Novara (Gopher alum Lauren Gibbemeyer's team) in the quarterfinals. Santana was also named Puerto Rico's Female Athlete of the Year by the Puerto Rican Volleyball Association. She played in the Pan American Cup (third place), the World Grand Prix (5th place), and NORCECA (2nd Place) where she finished as best scorer. She also helped Puerto Rico win the Challenger Cup in Canada earlier this year.
Rosado completed her collegiate career in 2017 and graduated from the University of Minnesota in May of 2018. The Challenger Cup marks her first appearance with the national team after a few years. Rosado completed her collegiate career with 1,870 digs, which ranks third in school history. A four-year starter and letterwinner for the Gophers, Rosado will look to play professional volleyball next season.
Filmed in 2015, take a look back at their journey from Puerto Rico, to Minnesota.
