Gophers to Begin Home-and-Home with Utah

Minnesota head men's basketball coach Richard Pitino announced Tuesday that the Gophers will begin a home-and-home series with the University of Utah. The two games will be played on campus sites, beginning this November at Williams Arena.
"I'm thrilled about this series for many reasons," said Pitino. "This will be a tremendous early-season test for our team against a proven, talented Power Five opponent in Utah. Having the first game of the series take place on our home court in front of our fantastic fans at the Barn makes it that much more exciting."
The first matchup between the Gophers and the Utes is scheduled for Monday, November 12. Game time and television information will be announced at a later date.
The return game at the Jon M. Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City will be played in 2019, with a final game date to be determined.
Utah is coming off a 20-win season and NIT runner-up finish, falling to Penn State in the championship game at Madison Square Garden. The Utes were 23-12 overall last season, including a third-place finish of 11-7 in Pac-12 Conference play.
This will be the third all-time meeting between the two schools, and the first in 15 years. The all-time series is led by Utah, 2-1. The Utes have taken the last two victories, including a 66-54 decision in Salt Lake City on Nov. 19, 2003. Minnesota earned a win, 90-77, in the 1955 Kentucky Invitational while Utah was victorious, 75-72, in the 1959 Dixie Classic in Raleigh, N.C.
Additionally, it will be the first time the Gophers face a Pac-12 team since defeating UCLA, 83-63, in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament. They also played at USC and on a neutral court against Stanford, both wins, that same season.
