Zeimann Gains International Experience

Sophomore outside hitter Alice Zeimann continues to improve her volleyball skills at Minnesota. However, the past two summers, she's gained international experience as well. Traveling to her native land of New Zealand, Zeimann, competed. Hailing from Christchurch, Zeimann, has also had experience with New Zealand's senior women's team. Take a look at this brief question/answer as we caught up with Alice.Â
What as the process like to play with your team in New Zealand?
I was selected by the national team coaches. I had played for them in previous years, and they selected us to play the Inter-provincial championships against Australia, which we won.Â
Had you played with some of your New Zealand teammates before this?Â
Yes, this team was made up of seasoned national team players. A lot of the girls are playing in the states right now, three of them I played high school with at Burnside.
What are some of the biggest differences playing for New Zealand rather than at the University of Minnesota?
I would say one of the biggest differences is the systems. We have different systems so it was sometimes challenging to adjust. It also made me appreciate everything we have at Minnesota, in terms of resources, facilities and our coaches.Â
How does playing internationally help your game at Minnesota?Â
I think the change of pace will be really good for my game. In terms of growing as a player and leadership roles. Obviously I played a lot when I was home, so it's given me a lot of confidence heading into this year. It's allowed me to keep working on the fundamentals that I've been trying to build up in the spring and then now bringing it back for the season.
What are you most excited for for sophomore year?
I'm most looking forward to the season, obviously, but the growth that our team has had during the offseason is really exciting. I'm really excited for our team to grow on all fronts.
