As the University of Minnesota soccer team gears up for another season, GopherSports.com sat down with each player on the 2018 team to get to know them better on and off the field!

Makenzie Langdok was the next to sit down with GopherSports.com to get to know her more on and off the field!

GopherSports.com: What are your summer plans? Internship? Travel? Playing Soccer? ANYTHING!

Makenzie Langdok: This summer I'm planning on getting a job in the orthopedics center here at the U and I'm going to play on a summer team with Emily, Molly, April, and McKenna! I'm also planning on taking a road trip over the Fourth of July with one of my best friends!

GS: Heading out of school for a few months, what do you like to do with your free time? Hobbies? Interests?

ML: I really enjoy doing almost anything outdoors, sitting in the sun, going to the lake, reading a book so I'm planning on doing as much of that as I can this summer!

GS: How did you begin playing soccer? What sparked your interest as a child?

ML: I started playing when I was four years old. My dad played and coached when he was growing up, and our rec soccer league took place just a block from my house so joining seemed like a no brainer. I've loved competing and playing on a team for all my life so I think those are the two things that really made me want to keep playing.

GS: What other positions have you played in the past? For instance… if you were a goal scorer in high school, and you are not now, what has that position change been like? Or vice versa…

ML: In high school soccer I was a forward for the first couple years and then moved to center mid for the remainder, I played outside mid for my club team. When I came here I was initially playing defense and now I'm back playing forward. It's been fun transitioning back to the playing up top and I've really enjoyed it.

GS: What kind of person would you describe yourself as? What kind of player would you describe yourself as?

ML: As a person I would describe myself as pretty quiet and someone who tends to keep to herself unless I'm around my close friends. I'm also a pretty serious person when it comes to things like school, I like to have fun but I also always get my stuff done. This transitions to how I am as a player too. As a player I'm hardworking and pretty intense.

GS: Have you played other sports in your life?

ML: I played basketball throughout middle school and ran track my freshman year but then ended up not being able to make the time commitment while playing club soccer too so I stopped.

GS: Is there a story behind your number you have in college? What about what you had in high school?

ML: I was number 21 all throughout my high school career. When I joined the team in 7th grade I got last pick for numbers so I chose 21 and ended up really liking it and sticking with it for the next 6 years. Coming to college 21 was taken so I picked 2- it was kinda close, I just chopped off the 1.

GS: What made you choose to come to the University of Minnesota? What does it mean to be a Gopher to you?

ML: I chose to come to the U of M because of a lot of different reasons. I'm from Minnesota so I grew up watching the gophers and picturing myself playing in that jersey, I also wanted to stay close to home and my family. I also chose to come to Minnesota because the team culture is unlike anything that I've ever been a part of and it's created by this definition we have of what it looks like to be a gopher. Being a gopher means you're able to put the team before yourself, be gritty, and work hard and tirelessly to accomplish individual and team goals. It's something that I take a lot of pride in and I know all of my teammates would say the same.

GS: What is your favorite part about playing soccer here?

ML: My favorite part of playing soccer here is being able to compete an incredibly high level day in and day out whether it's a game or training. I also love the relationships that I've been able to build with my teammates, we get along great and I'm so lucky to be surrounded by such an amazing group of women every day.
