Less than two miles from campus, the University of Minnesota men's basketball team will be a part of history in the first basketball event at U.S. Bank Stadium this November. The Gophers will face Oklahoma State University in a neutral-site matchup on Friday, November 30. Game time and television broadcast information will be announced at a later date.
"We couldn't be more excited to take part in the U.S. Bank Stadium Basketball Classic," said Minnesota head coach Richard Pitino. "The opportunity to play in the first basketball event at a state-of-the-art venue against a tremendous opponent in Oklahoma State was too good to pass up. I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of Maroon and Gold among the purple seats in November."
The Gophers are part of the two-day, four-game event which comprise the inaugural basketball games played at the venue, home of the Minnesota Vikings along with Super Bowl LII and the 2019 NCAA Final Four. Prior to the Minnesota-Oklahoma State game, St. Thomas and Wisconsin-River Falls will meet earlier in the evening. One day later on Saturday, December 1, North Dakota State will battle Drake followed by a meeting between South Dakota State and Northern Iowa.
Tickets for the U.S. Bank Stadium Basketball Classic go on sale Friday, August 10 at 10 am CT and are available for two-day or single-day packages. A pre-game Tailgate Party, hosted in the Delta Sky360 Club with food and beverage specials, is available for $35 and begins three hours prior to the first game each day. Tickets for the Tailgate Party are available to the public for purchase on a first come, first serve basis. All tickets can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com.
Additionally, the Gophers have secured a limited number of tickets available for current University of Minnesota students. Current student season ticket holders will be given first opportunity to purchase their seats, followed by general students if available. More information, including student on-sale date, will be announced at a later time.
"We are excited to provide fans with an awesome opportunity to experience great basketball games at U.S. Bank Stadium in advance of the 2019 NCAA Men's Final Four," says Patrick Talty, SMG General Manager at U.S. Bank Stadium. "The U.S. Bank Stadium Basketball Classic is an accessible way for college basketball fans to enjoy a game in this unique setting. Our participating schools deliver strong match-ups for attendees, and we look forward to working with each university to give their athletes, fans, alumni, and staff a world-class experience."
Minnesota and Oklahoma State have met six times previously, splitting the all-time series at three games each. The most recent matchup also came on a neutral court, with the Cowboys edging the Gophers, 62-60, at Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D., on December 12, 2015. All three of the Gopher victories have come in Minneapolis at Williams Arena.
The Cowboys are coming off a 21-15 campaign under Mike Boynton that included six wins over top-25 opponents, including a school-record four wins over top-10 squads. OSU became the first team since 2003 to earn a regular-season sweep over Kansas, and had four victories over teams in the 2018 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight.
In addition to November's game, the Gophers are slated to face Oklahoma State once more on a neutral court. Minnesota will travel to the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla., to square off with the Cowboys in fall 2019 on a date to be determined.
The full Gophers non-conference schedule will be announced at a later date this summer.
