Minnesota starts a week of announcing All-Headshot Teams with the All-Hair Team
If you ask any player on the Gopher football team they would likely tell you that no feeling compares to gameday, but there is one offseason day that comes close: headshot day.
Each year nervous Gopher football players step up to get their photo taken with the hopes of making one of the coveted All-Headshot Teams. This year we are excited to announce the All-Hair Team, All-Smile Team, All-Game Face Team and, most prestigious of them all, the All-Beard Team.
The anticipation of these announcements has dominated conversations among Gopher football players and fans for weeks. Our panel of experts has sweated and debated for days at a time, sometimes foregoing sleep altogether. We kick off this exciting week by introducing you to the 2018 All-Hair Team.
Join us in wishing congratulations to First Team honorees Mayan Ahanotu, Brock Annexstad, Quinn Oseland and Thomas Rush. The Second Team winners are Blake Cashman, Demetrius Douglas, Clay Geary and Benny Sapp III.
Oseland is the only member of the of this year's All-Hair Team to have earned back-to-back honors.
"Next question," Oseland said confidently when asked about his reign on the squad. "Trust the process."
Cashman and Geary are no strangers to making an All-Headshot Team as both made the All-Smile Team a season ago. Cashman is more proud of this year's accomplishment.
"I've put in a lot of time with conditioning and blow drying my hair to get where I'm at now," Cashman said. "Coming in as a freshman I never would have expected this, but over the last year I've felt like this was mine for the taking. It might be my biggest accomplishment as a Gopher."
Douglas and Annexstad both earned the honor after missing out in their first year as Gophers.
"It was a big letdown after missing the team last year," Annexstad said. "So I put in a lot of work this year and the results speak for themselves."
Three true freshmen in Ahanotu, Rush and Sapp III have set the bar high for the rest of their careers by already nabbing one of the precious eight spots.
"It's an elite honor and a tremendous amount of pressure on me as a freshman to keep my hair looking elite as always," Sapp III said.
Ahanotu has received compliments for his hair before but nothing that compares to making the All-Hair Team.
"I'm so blessed to be put in this position. This is definitely the greatest achievement I've ever received for my hair," Ahantou said. "Maybe even the greatest accolade you could receive as a Gopher but who knows?"
