Carter Coughlin moved from linebacker to rush end and led Minnesota in tackles for loss

Roster // Schedule

Carter Coughlin moved from linebacker to rush end at the start of last season and found immediate success. The Eden Prairie, Minn., native started all 12 games and recorded 37 tackles. He led the team with 11.5 tackles for loss, which ranked 16th in the Big Ten and was the most for a Gopher since 2013. He also totaled 6.5 sacks (sixth in the Big Ten), forced one fumble and was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention. Coughlin excelled in the classroom too as he earned Academic All-Big Ten distinction.

Coughlin is a legacy Gopher, as his father, Robert, played football for Minnesota from 1986-90 and was a two-year letterwinner. His mother, Jennie (Moe), played tennis for the Maroon and Gold from 1989-92 and was a three-time all-conference selection and two-time team MVP. She is in the top-5 in program history for singles wins (92) and doubles victories (89). Coughlin's grandfather, Tom Moe, lettered for the Gophers from 1957-59 and later served as interim athletic director for the Gophers for three years (1999-2002).
