Gophers begin the season in one week against New Mexico State at TCF Bank Stadium

The University of Minnesota football team kicks off a new season of Gopher football 1 week from today. Minnesota will welcome New Mexico State to TCF Bank Stadium for the second time ever when the Gophers and Aggies face one another at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30. The game will be broadcast on BTN and can heard on KOOL 108 (107.9 FM).
This will be the third all-time meeting between Minnesota and New Mexico State. The Gophers won the previous meeting 44-21 on the road. This will be the sixth straight season that Minnesota opens the year at home on a Thursday night. The Gophers are 4-1 in those games, which includes a 17-7 win against Buffalo last season under coach P.J. Fleck. Minnesota's win a year ago made Fleck the school's first head coach to win his Gopher debut since John Gutekunst in 1986.
