The IAAF Continental Cup is a competition between Africa, the Americas, Asia/Pacific, and Europe. The Americas team is composed of athletes from North America, Central America, Caribbean track & field federations, and South America. The Continental Cup title will be awarded to the continent with the highest collective point total of both men's and women's teams at the conclusion of the meet on Sunday.
A dual citizen of the United States and Nigeria, Ogunrinde earned a place on Africa's team for the Continental Cup while competing for Team Nigeria at the 2018 African Athletics Championships in Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria, this summer. She set a new Nigerian national record and placed second in the hammer throw with a throw of 67.39m (221-01), just two inches shy of her career-best throw (67.45m, 221-03).
Ogunrinde's debut on the world stage followed an impressive 2018 collegiate season during which she repeated as the Big Ten Conference champion and earned Second Team All-America honors in hammer throw. She owns the Big Ten and Minnesota records in hammer throw at 67.45m (221-03) and returns to the Maroon & Gold for her final season of eligibility in 2018-19.
