Meet Preview: Best of Minnesota

The University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team is set to compete in their home opener this Saturday, Jan. 12 in the Best of Minnesota quad meet against Hamline, Gustavus and Winona State at 4:00 p.m. in Maturi Pavilion. The Gophers resume participation in the annual Best of Minnesota meet this year after forgoing a matchup against the other in-state universities during the 2018 season.
In addition to hosting other Minnesota teams, the Gophers are excited to welcome gymnasts and club teams from around the state for its annual Club Day. Youth gymnasts can enter the meet for free if they register here.
After last weekend's third-place finish in the quad meet at Arizona State, the team is looking to improve upon both the beam rotation and last Friday's overall team score of 194.150. Sophomore Lexy Ramler is looking to continue her strong performance this weekend after claiming event wins on vault, uneven bars. She scored three 9.900s and a 9.825 to take the top spot in the all-around competition as well.
Junior Paige Williams also posted important scores for the Gophers in last week's competition. Her 9.850 on vault and 9.825 on floor were crucial routines that counted for Minnesota, and were tied for second and first respectively in each rotation for the Gophers.
This Saturday's meet is the first of the 2019 season for both Gustavus and Winona State, while Hamline came out on top in their season-opening dual meet again Wis-Oshkosh last Sunday, Jan. 6. The Pipers claimed the win with a final team score of 183.525.
