Minnesota won two events on day one of the Graduate Classic in Lincoln, Neb., on Friday evening.
LINCOLN, Neb. -- Kelli Schmidt and Lindsey Greenlund won event titles and Tess Keyzers and Hannah Morris recorded all-time top-10 marks as the Golden Gopher women's track & field team competed on day one of the Graduate Classic at Nebraska's Bob Devaney Sports Center on Friday evening.
Schmidt led the way in the 800m, clocking a career-best time of 2:11.32 for the win and leading three Gophers among the top three as Paige Peschel was runner-up in 2:13.93 and Sophie Schmitz finished third. Likewise, Greenlund won the mile in 5:01.85, leading three Gophers among the top four finishers as Carissa Dock finished second in a career-best 5:02.20 and Elyse Prescott was fourth.
"Both the men and women have done a good job of just being together," director of track & field and cross country Matt Bingle said. "It's been pretty low stress and a great atmosphere with everybody taking care of everybody, buying into things, and enjoying each other. It's been a blessing, just like it has this whole year so far."
Keyzers finished as weight throw runner-up with a career-best throw of 19.86m (65-02.00) to debut at eighth on the Gophers' all-time top-10 list. Temi Ogunrinde also earned a podium finish, taking third with a throw of 19.08m (62-07.25).
Morris took third in the long jump with a collegiate best mark of 5.88m (19-03.50) to move into 10th in program history.
Other top performances on the track saw Anastasia Korzenowski lead the Maroon & Gold in the 3,000m run with a runner-up finish in 10:03.15. Olivia Hummel (10:04.82), Tate Sweeney (10:05.14), and Jaycie Thomsen (10:12.05) rounded out the top five finishers.
In qualifying heats, Lexi Romero won her heat and placed second overall in the 60m to move on to Saturday's preliminary heats while Monique Felix and Hannah Arason both advanced in the 60m hurdles.
Action continues at the Graduate Classic on Saturday. Members of the team are also slated to compete at the Minnesota Open at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse on Saturday.
